Sweet Hawaij Roasted Beet & Sweet Potato Tart
Thinking out of the box and using the Yemenite Sweet Hawaij Spice Blend to flavor a Beet and Sweet Potato puffed pastry tart was risky, but it pays off in this plant-based meal for Meatless Monday.
It is a perfect pairing that gives this spice blend even more versatility than allowing coffee and tea to keep this hidden gem all to themselves.
Sweet Hawaij Spice Blend
Sweet Hawaij, pronounced “hu-why-adge” is a Yemeni warming spice blend that is a cousin to both pumpkin and mixed spice blends. Hawaij means “mixture” in Arabic and both the sweet and savory versions are a staple in Yemenite Kitchens. Here you with find recipes for both whole and ground spices.
